United Teachers of Dade president Karen Aronowitz has been elected to a second term. Aronowitz, a former high-school English teacher, received 55 percent of the ballots cast Wednesday, enough to avoid a runoff with any of her four challengers. She will serve a three-year term.

4-year degree in nursing approved for MDC

Miami Dade College won approval Tuesday for its third four-year program -- a bachelor's of science in nursing. The school plans to accept its first 30 students in Spring 2008 and eventually enroll a total of 150 at its medical campus near Jackson Memorial Hospital, said K.K.
