Financial Aid Season Begins...Just a quick reminder that tomorrow, January 1, marks the beginning of college financial aid season. January 1 is the first day that the FAFSA form--the most important form in the financial aid process--can be submitted. Why should you submit your FAFSA as soon as possible? Many colleges award need-based financial aid on a first-come, first-served basis. Such colleges will be less limited by their overall financial aid budgets if you submit your FAFSA form in January or early February. Additionally, if you don't get as much money as you hoped, colleges generally have more flexibility earlier in the process to revise your financial aid award. So enjoy your new year's eve celebration plus a day of family, friends, and football. But don't forget to get going on your FAFSA soon thereafter. That's a resolution for the new year that's like money in the bank. By Ben Kaplan at Dec 31 2006 - 2:08pm | College Funding | Ben Kaplan's blog | login or register to post comments
